Greenlandish Stamp Programme 2010
2010 Stamp programme from POST Greenland
By land, sea and air. This could also be the headline for the 20 new stamps POST Greenland will issue during the year. The themes range from: Christmas, Polar Bears, Birds, Greenlandic Expeditions, Her Majesty the Queen, Mining, The Arctic, Thule, Literature, Aviation, Theatre, Comics, International Women’s Day, Mother Sun and our flag.

18th January 2010
The fourth part of the series “Contemporary Art” displays the works of the three younger Greenlandic artists: Maria Panínguak ‘Kjaerulff, Miki Jacobsen and Bolatta Silis-Høegh.

This year’s EUROPA-stamps have been designed with children’s books in mind, beautifully interpreted by Julie Hardenberg, whilst this year’s additional value stamp, created by Bolatta Silis-Høegh, will be issued for the benefit of the theatre group Silamiut which, in 2009, celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Air Greenland can this year celebrate their 50th anniversary; POST Greenland celebrates this special day with a beautiful commemorative postage stamp created with breathtaking artistic strokes by the talented artist Ina Rosing.

8th March 2010
The 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world on this day; the anniversary is also celebrated in Greenland. Naja Rosing-Asvid´s stamp is a highly imaginative interpretation of the theme.

24th March 2010
The new Norden-series, with the sea as the pivotal element, commences on the same day with all eight Nordic Postal Services. With the common theme “Life by the sea” Aka Høegh has created an immensely beautiful Greenlandic angle.

16th April 2010
Her Majesty the Queen will celebrate her seventieth birthday in 2010. POST Greenland is very proud to participate in the celebration with a beautiful offset stamp by the royal photographer Steen Brogaard. The stamp is released on the actual anniversary date.

1st May 2010
On this day in 1985 we hoisted our beloved flag for the first time. In Greenlandic, we say: Erfalasorput. The artist who created the flag design a quarter of a century ago, Thue Christiansen, has now created a very beautiful stamp to mark this twenty-fifth anniversary.

On the same day, Robert Holmes has his stamp debut and he gives us a glance into his humorous and satirical comic universe from Boas & Co. In Greenlandic: Buuarsikkut.

18th October 2010
The 100th anniversary of the foundation of Knud Rasmussen’s famous trading post at Thule is depicted on a beautiful steel engraved stamp by Bertil Skov Jørgensen, whilst an entirely new series “Greenlandic Mining” begins with two colourful offset stamps.

The acclaimed Expedition series by Martin Mörck pays, this time, tribute to the Briton John Ross and the Greenlander Hans Sakæus’ common Arctic endeavours in 1818, whilst

the cartoonist Nuka K. Godtfredsen leaves his characteristic comic figure, Andala, to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas from Greenland.

All 20 stamps and 4 souvenir sheets will also be available in POST Greenland’s 2010 Year Pack; the Year Pack will be published on 18th of October.

With best wishes for a Happy New Year and I hope that these new Greenlandic stamps will arouse great curiosity, interest and joy with everyone. It is a great pleasure to be able to present and issue them.

Sincerely
Per Svendsen
Managing Director
